The Toyota Tundra beat out "heavy-duty trucks" from Chevrolet, GMC and Ford to earn the 2008 Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award. Eligible vehicles for the 2008 award included the Tundra, Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD and Ford Super Duty. Motor Trend editors said: "The new Toyota Tundra is now ready to take on any American-made pickup - on all levels and if there's a quieter truck out there, we haven't driven it!"
The Toyota Tundra has made history as one of 34 vehicles - and the first full size pickup - to earn a Top Safety Pick Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Institute says the vehicle's electronic stability control "reduces the risk of fatal single-vehicle crashes by 56% and fatal multiple-vehicle crashes by 32%."
